Places to visit

In Pateley Bridge you can visit the award-winning Nidderdale Museum and get a taste of how life used to be. Traditions are also enthusiastically preserved with annual events such as the Arts Trail, Nidderdale Show, Walking Festival and Christmas St Nicholas Fair.

At the upper end of the Dale lies the stunning Scar House Reservoir, a great place to blow away the cobwebs. Not forgetting Middlesmoor with its pretty views across Gouthwaite Reservoir and How Stean Gorge, an outstanding limestone gorge, hidden in Nidderdale’s lush green pastures.

Enjoy a riverside walk from the cottage door by heading north along the River Nidd to the Sportsman’s Arms Pub and Restaurant at nearby Wath.

Just a short distance away you can experience Yorkshires’ highest art sculpture at Coldstones Cut, the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey, Studley Royal and Brimham Rocks or why not visit the stunning abbeys of Bolton and Jervaulx. The Spa town of Harrogate is just a half hour drive away, as is the charming village of Grassington and the market town of Masham, the famous home to the brewing legends that are Theakstons and Black Sheep.
